After I rested and bathed in my newfound warmth, I took note of the crestfallen knight nearby. He seemed... defeated. Every word, every inflection... he gave off the air of a broken man. He kept disparaging my efforts, saying I would have been better off where I came from, but he shed some light on Oscar's words: there was in fact two literal "bells of awakening", and that I should ring them. At least he gave me some bearings...

After a formal salute, I went on my way.

Also of note in the area was a cleric. A passive man by nature, it seemed, he merely wanted to keep to himself, but offered if I would wish to join his group and learn spells. Any real interactions would be welcome... So I accepted. His teachings taught me how to heal my injuries without the need of estus... a prayer to the Lord of Light and focusing upon my talisman.

I followed the knights instructions to a great, crumbling city. As I explored the place, that... hunger started growing in my belly once more. Every kill satiated it somewhat, but it was always there, always growling and lurking... it tensed my muscles, grasped my sword, and swung away with reckless abandon... I fought through a few scattered undead before nearly meeting death at the claws of a great flying beast. It wasn't interested in me, it seems, but I narrowly escaped its grasp... The bonfire was near, mercifully.

After a brief rest, I resumed my explorations. I turned a corner and saw upon the ground, a withered undead who spoke out to me and beckoned me closer. My hands grasped my blade and before I could control myself the steel ripped into his chest. I tried to apologize but he would have none of it and we horribly clashed, trading blow for blow until I knocked his blade aside and plunged my blade deep into him. I stood for a moment and fell to the ground to weep...

I eventually wiped the tears from my eyes and said a hollow prayer... to whom, I know not, but it felt appropriate... I laid a cloth over the man's head in sadness and continued on.

The next trial in my way was that of the great, muscle-bound demon. Almost like a bull, it was, rippling with strength. Clutching the firebombs I had pillaged from a corpse, I set it alight before engaging in a battle of arms. The thing was brutishly strong, and it was almost all I could bear to turn aside its blows, but I eventually prevailed and smote it upon the battlements.

It was little further that I met a most intriguing person. A certain man by the name of Solaire. A friendly face in all this madness!!... His form just seemed to radiate happiness and comfort, so when he proposed... erm, jolly cooperation, I was eager to take him up on it.

A few steps and... A menacing form swoops down overhead. At the end of the long bridge was a massive, red lizard. It glared at me, watching as I approached... Near its feet lay a large, glimmering sword... I dashed, diving for it as the thing opened its maw; my fingers wrapped around its hilt as the great gout of fire enveloped my body. All I could feel was pain...

My eyes opened to a bewildering sight: the bonfire. How had I gotten back here?... My belly hungered ever harder, my core was cold... I was an undead once more. I quickly broke another dark crystal and became human once again, but the cold lingering in my fingertips remained... My hands still shiver even as I write these words.
